As we get closer to the end of the first quarter in the 2020-2021 school year, it becomes harder and harder to find fun things to do outside of school and social media. Below I have compiled a list of activities that are fun and safe to do during this quarantining period.
One of my favorite things to do in quarantine to destress and relax is art. There are so many different types of art that you can do to pass the time, you can draw paint, color, photography, and more. This is one of the many things that you don't need any prior experience or talent to do. You can create whatever you want. If you want to do art in a way that you will get better at it you can watch videos, create Pinterest boards, follow, and big artists so that you can learn and progress in your art skills.
Another activity that I have started to take more time to do over quarantine is reading. I have now found the time to read for fun, and to many people, I know that that sounds like something you would never do but believe me it is so great to find a book that you can enjoy on your own. If you live near or have a library card to a public library you can look up their quarantine rules on how to check out a book and you can also find out how to get a book from school. If you don't know what kind of books you would be interested in, take some online quizzes or pick a random genre and go from there until you find one that you like.
A family-friendly activity you can enjoy with the people in your house is to put on your fanciest clothes and have a dance party night. Of course, you don't have to only do your fanciest clothing or favorite music, you can also dress up as your favorite musician or band or tv character and watch a show or movie dressed like the characters.
A fun outside activity you can do is if you have a pet, take them for a walk, whether you take your turtle around the yard or your dog around the block, go outside, get some fresh are, and stretch your legs maybe even workout in your yard. If you don't have a pet you can go for a walk with a sibling or a neighbor (as long as it’s socially distanced). Once it starts snowing you can make snow angels and have a snowball fighter. You can also decorate your house for the holidays.
It is always nice to learn new things and share them with your family or friends. To do this you can put a bunch of topics in a hat or have a general topic that you and your family or friends can research and make fun and silly google slide presentations on. This can be done with your friends over google meets or Microsoft teams as well as zoom and facetime. It is great to use silly pictures and even sillier topics.
And last but not least you can get a new hobby or learn a new skill. You can take up a new language using the internet and apps such as Duolingo and Youtube.
You can also start doing puzzles and get harder and harder ones to do, this you can do with your family if you’re up for the family time. Start listening to new music or learn to cook, share your interests on social media. Learn to do makeup or create a Pinterest board to find new styles of clothing you like. Start a new show with a friend or family member. Play new video games and more.
